'Portraits of André Breton' 2023
50 masks in paper & carton
Carlos Aires ingeniously recreated the renowned 'Portrait of André Breton' masks, as captured by Man Ray in 1930. During the last Parade, Carlos shared his creation with the audience by exhibiting 50 unique, self-made masks. This intervention was documented in photographs taken by both the artist himself and members of the 'masked' audience.
'Will you be so kind to tell me ..where I am ?' 2022
Carlos Aires presented this video creation as an appetizer of his investigative process, initiated in 2021 as part of the Radicale 1924 residency program. The work is a contemporary video collage using AI face swap technology, featuring highlights from the greatest Hollywood movies of the 1960s with portraits of the young André Breton
'The Last Interview with André Breton' 2021
For the first edition fo 'Parade, the public event' in September 2021, Carlos Aires orchestrated a séance at the house André Breton in Saint Cirq Lapopie. His aim was to conduct the first of a series of curious post-mortem interviews with this inlfuential figure in modern art. It was the starting point of a research process that aims to reflect on , from and against the legacy that has transcended surrealism among the new generations. In this seance around the table, 8 people from the village were present, including the artist himself .
In September 28 th 2024 this séance will be orchestrated again for the opening of our final exhibition in Maison André Breton.
